What Is Meditation

Meditation is an ancient tradition practiced in many cultures. The word meditation comes from the Latin phrase "stem meditatum," which means “to ponder.” Meditation is a mind body practice, which works towards discovering and deepening the inner relationship of the mind, body, spirit connection. Meditation practice postures varies ways depending on the style. You may sit on a cushion, blanket or chair, be in a lying position on a yoga mat or towel, reclined against a bolster or the wall, or having movement such as yoga or walking. Intention for practice considers, if we can be present in the moment, introspective, but nonjudgmental or labeling, connect the breath with the body, your inner wisdom and clarity is revealed. Using this clarity and inner wisdom from pondering in meditation allows for better relationships and clarity, sense of purpose and healing, in the people, communities, society, and world surrounding us.

Each meditation practice is a different experience, and it is normal to become distracted at times. This is why it is called meditation practice and not perfection. The practice of meditation may produce a state of deep relaxation and mental tranquility.

Why Meditate

Take Care of Your Overall Well-Being

Meditation is used to support mental, physical, and spiritual health (the triad balance). It releases tension and stress, allowing the practitioner to calm their mind and body while enhancing their mental focus and clarity.

Practice Introspection

Practitioners strive to deepen self-awareness and connect with their inner thoughts of the mind, the physical body, the spirit (sense happiness), and joy. Practice promotes the creation of internal balance, positivity, peace, and relaxation, enhancing health and wellness benefits.

Who Should Be Meditating

Everyone and anyone who wants to explore the practice for clarity, stress relief, and support an overall healthy lifestyle and well-being. Meditation is readily available for everyone from children to adults. Meditation welcomes all — it just takes a commitment for self-care time and practice.

Commitment to your self-care through meditation means, finding a practice that fits your lifestyle and schedule. You will be more likely to practice if you set a realistic goal that is easy to achieve every day, maybe 3-5 minutes, and go from there. You will find your time increases naturally.

Remember—meditation is a practice, and life distractions happen to everyone!

Together we will craft a tailored meditation practice, fitting your needs. Read more about mind -body connect from the National Library of Medicine (NLM) from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) CLICK LINK HERE
