Styles of Yoga Practice Available

Hatha

This style of yoga combines the practice of mind, body, and breath. This alignment-based practice focuses on physical postures with use of breath techniques to move vital energy while challenges physical balance, strengthens muscles, and increases flexibility in the body, while connecting the practice of the of the mind, body spirit. Postures used in this practice also utilize functional movement with the breath, to strengthen the entire body, encourage flexibility and increase balance, enhancing body movements which have meaningful use in activities of daily life.

Yin

As a unique combination incorporating yoga and principles of meridians energy flow from Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). This very slow-moving yoga style aids and improves energy flow through the principal meridians of the body. The principal meridians are associated with specific organs of the body which increase health and wellness of the body and mind. Yin Yoga postures are held for a length of time ranging from 3 to7 minutes, targeting the deep connective tissues of the body such as the fascia, ligaments, joints and bones for stability, flexibility, and muscle tone.

Vinyasa Flow

This yoga practice focuses on performing postures in a flowing manner of movement in which there is coordination of full deep breaths with the movement. This practice improves improve the flow of energy in your body while developing strong muscles and bringing mental clarity.

Iyengar

This style of yoga focuses on proper body alignment with the use props. The most commonly used props for this style of practice are yoga blocks, yoga straps, yoga bolsters, yoga chairs and benches. Focus remains on maintaining proper body alignment through the use of the proper prop placement to bring support different parts of the body while in postures, allowing for deepening into the posture while maintaining body alignment throughout this yoga practice.

Restorative Yoga

This practice of yoga “restores” the body to its Parasympathetic Nervous System (PNS) state, which elicits the relaxation response of the body. This allows the body to rest, relax, restore balance, and rejuvenate. Postures or asanas in restorative yoga are held for a longer period of time than tradition yoga. Postures are held from 10-20 minutes and use props of blankets, towels, blocks, straps and bolsters to support the body to encourage the relaxation response to fully engage and settle into the body.

Chair Yoga

This gentle yoga focuses on the use of a chair, whether you are sitting in the chair or standing and using the chair for support. This style of yoga helps to increases strength, flexibility, and concentration.

Pranayama

This style of yoga is a main element in yoga practice. It may be used as yogic practice in and of itself, however it is classically included traditionally at the start and closing of yoga practice. Practice includes various breathing techniques which are appropriate for the need of the practice (breath regulation), whether that is increasing energy in the body or slowing and soothing the energy of the body. This practice connects the breath with controlled movement of the body. Breathwork is practiced in a sitting, reclined, or lying posture. Pranayama is also preparation for deep meditation by actively engaging the skill of withdrawal of the senses and outer world, for calming and clarity of the mind. The connection of the physical and mental relationship in practice is used to support wellness and wellbeing. Pranayama encourages relief from fatigue, anxiety and stress, calms the mind and body, strengthen the respiratory system, boosts energy, improves concentration and mental focus.
